FIJI Water has taken a significant step towards environmental sustainability by introducing new 100% recycled plastic bottles for its iconic 500 mL and 330 mL sizes, excluding caps and labels. The bottles will be exclusively served at the 9th National Film Awards UK, where FIJI Water is returning as the Official Bronze Sponsor.
This move to rPET marks a significant milestone for the company and represents a substantial step towards reducing plastic waste globally. FIJI Water has committed to transitioning its entire bottle portfolio to rPET by 2025. The company’s projected total bottle volume per 2023 sales forecast indicates that nearly 70% of its bottle volume will be replaced with recycled material.
“We are thrilled to join the National Film Awards in the UK to celebrate this year’s top talent and shows,” said Wai Mei Lee, Vice President of International at FIJI Water. “We are proud to toast all the nominees and attendees with our new 100% recycled plastic bottles, excluding caps and labels.”
In addition to introducing 100% rPET bottles, FIJI Water has invested approximately FJ$5 million (£1.82 million) in energy efficiency initiatives in the Fiji Islands. The company has adopted low-sulphur fuel standards for shipping and is using microturbine energy generation to reduce sulphur oxide emissions. FIJI Water is also dedicated to preserving the islands through the FIJI Water Foundation, which supports sustainability and provides clean water, healthcare services, grants for local schools, and more to native Fijians.
The Wonderful Company, the parent company of FIJI Water, has invested more than $1.3 billion in environmental sustainability initiatives to combat climate change. The company’s owners, Stewart and Lynda Resnick, have donated $750 million to Caltech to support environmental sustainability research. The Wonderful Company has also joined RE100, a global initiative of major companies committed to using 100% renewable energy.
FIJI Water’s move to 100% rPET bottles is a positive step towards reducing plastic waste and preserving the environment. As the company continues to invest in sustainability initiatives, consumers can expect to see more positive changes from FIJI Water in the future.
