Music is still a constant that drives us to feel inspired, motivated, appreciated, and all the senses in between. There has never been a time like now, where music is at the forefront of at the very least helping millions be entertained. The National Post caught up with an exclusive interview with musician Diana Dray who shares her inspirations, passion and why music is still the driving force in her life..
What inspired you to get into music?
I’ve always been a music fan since my early childhood years and at some point in my teenage years I got curious about how music is acuatlly made. I was captivated by the sound of the early 2000s, mostly hip hop, and I wanted to learn how to make music myself. That was exactly when DAWs started being more accessable and widely used. I’m mostly self taught and I feel extremely lucky that I’m alive in a time when I don’t need a million dollar studio to create great records. The style of Scott Storch, Timbaland and Dr. Dre definetily shaped me as the producer I am today.
How would you describe your music?
I’d say unique melodies and interesting drum patterns blended together. Minors definetily dominate the majority of my music.
What would you say is your creating style?
I don’t have a particular pattern I stick with. I mostly start several projects at the same time and I finish them one at a time. If I a client has a specific request I just follow their guidelines while also leaving a piece of ‘me’ in it.
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
I hope I get a chance to produce for some of my favorite artists. I’d love to work with Cardi B someday and this oportunity might actually come sooner than 5 years, fingers crossed. I also really want to place more music films and tv shows.
Where can music fans find you online?
Mostly on Instagram, SoundCloud and my music is available on all major platforms. I’m also rebuilding my website which will be linked to my social media as soon as it’s complete.
